The Rim of The World Historical Society was founded in 1986. The Historical Society began as part of an “election platform” in Crestline’s annual race for Honorary Mayor. Originally known as the Crest Forest Historical Society, the group soon found itself representing all west-end mountain communities from Snow Valley to Cedarpines Park.

In 1997, the name was changed to the Rim of the World Historical Society. Today you can go on The Rim of The World Historical Society’s web site and find information on just about any community located near and around Lake Arrowhead. It is a great reference for general facts and history on the mountain area. To visit the Historical Society’s web site, CLICK HERE

The Historical Society now has a museum located at 27176 Peninsula Drive, Lake Arrowhead, CA near the intersection of Peninsula and Rhine.

Volunteer With The San Bernardino National Forest Service

crlakeview1 300x208 Volunteer With The San Bernardino National Forest Service

Being a Lake Arrowhead resident comes with a special sense of pride and affection towards the mountains and all they have to offer. For example many mountain locals enjoy Outdoor sports and activities’ including hiking, fishing, skiing, biking etc. If you are someone who simply loves the outdoors a great way to connect with Lake Arrowhead and its natural landscape is by Volunteering with The San Bernardino National Forest.

Volunteers with professional skills are certainly welcome and sought after, but novices will not be turned away. Many facets of National Forest operations can be learned by on-the-job training, listening, and observing first hand.

Volunteers help build and construct trails, work at visitor centers, present educational programs, survey wildlife and plants with Forest Service scientists, and patrol wilderness areas. Many office jobs, including desktop publishing and computer work, can be done by volunteers.

Contact the Forest Supervisor’s Office at (909) 382-2600 to volunteer.

You can also join one of the existing United States Forest Service Volunteer Organizations below.

FOREST SERVICE ADOPT A TRAIL
Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) clubs and organizations in partnership with the San Bernardino National Forest adopt trails and routes and the group provides the maintenance needed to sustain recreational use by the public throughout the operating season. Local ranger districts decide which trails or routes should be adopted and the Adopt-A-Trail Coordinator makes the route assignments based on the groups request and trail needs. Each trail is different, but to the right is a list of the types of maintenance that can be required.

FOREST SERVICE GREENTHUMBS
Volunteers meet at least once a month to work in the greenhouse, collect seeds, plant seedlings on the Forest, or to assist in mulching, watering, or weeding sites for the entire San Bernardino range from Ranch Cucamonga to Angelus Oaks. Recently we added another green house located at the Ranger Station in Lytle Creek.

FOREST SERVICE VOLUNTEER ASSOCIATION
Members patrol the San Jacinto and Santa Rosa Wildernesses. FSVA Wilderness Volunteers, on foot and horseback, serve as the eyes and ears of the Forest Service, providing information to wilderness visitors, maintaining trails and campsites, and reporting any problems they encounter.

PACIFIC CREST TRAIL ASSOCIATION
Volunteers work on parts of the 2,600 mile long Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (PCT) both as trail adopters and through regularly scheduled weekend projects (1-4 days) and service trips (5-10 days). The PCTA, in cooperation with the US Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management and California State Parks, is also the primary source for information about the PCT.

RIM OF THE WORLD INTERPRETIVE ASSOCIATION
Maintains and staffs the Heap’s Peak Arboretum and operates a retail outlet there. They present interpretive events and tours.

SAN BERNARDINO national forest ASSOCIATION
Volunteers assist the Forest with six major volunteer programs; Children’s Forest, Off-Highway Vehicle Volunteers, Fire Lookout Hosts, Discovery Center and the Fire Education Volunteers. The SBNFA also provides a variety of interpretive services, partnerships, and fundraising activities.

Who Was Saint Valentine Anyways?

Ever Wonder Who Saint Valentine Was?

cupid Who Was Saint Valentine Anyways?                                 It seems as if the origin of the lover’s holiday we call Valentines Day  wears a vail of  mystery. When researching the history of Valentines Day I simply could not pin down a definite answer. There are various stories behind the identity of this Romantic tradition and although the truth behind the Valentine legend is unclear I’ll highlight the story which sparked my interest the most.

The tale which was the most intriguing contends that in the third century of Rome Emperor Claudius II discovered that single men made superior soldiers over men with wives and families. So the emperor decided to outlaw marriage for young men (his potential soldiers). A priest named Valentine found the law unjust and wicked. Valentine made the decision to defy Claudius’ decree and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. The priest took a huge risk with this cloak-and-dagger operation. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. And so as a tribute to this mans courageous statement, in the name of love, we celebrate Valentines Day. Happy Valentines Day From RE/MAX Lakeside Lake Arrowhead!

A Little History on The Famous RE/MAX Balloon.

Modern Hot Air Ballon REMAX 300x284 A Little History on The Famous RE/MAX Balloon.RE/MAX Lakeside Lake Arrowhead is the OFFICIAL and  ONLY Lake Arrowhead Real Estate Agency with the advantages of the most aggressive advertising, promotion and recognizable brand in Real Estate history.

Where Did The RE/MAX Ballon come from?

Admittedly, when RE/MAX began its relationship with hot air ballooning in 1978, the motivation was pretty straightforward: As a fledgling real estate network we needed a marketing image that would get noticed.

Just five years old at the time, RE/MAX already held more market share in Denver, the network’s birthplace, than any competitor. Word of mouth was spreading fast about the network of highly experienced real estate agents who were proving to be more experienced, productive and knowledgeable than anyone else on the scene.

But market studies showed that among consumers in general, name recognition of RE/MAX ranked well below many lesser competitors.

Meanwhile, in New Mexico, a few RE/MAX agents and their regional leaders dreamed up the idea of entering a red-over-white-over blue RE/MAX Balloon in the 1978 Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Fiesta. The RE/MAX ground crew wore jackets with patches that read, “Above the Crowd! ®”, a phrase devised by an Affiliate. And as often is the case with hot air balloons, the RE/MAX Balloon really grabbed some attention. Plus, the imagery meshed perfectly with the RE/MAX network’s emphasis on innovation, freedom and leadership.

RE/MAX International executives in Denver enthusiastically adopted the balloon image as the corporate logo. Within a year, Colorado had its own RE/MAX Balloon, and featured it prominently in a local television campaign. Within four months, RE/MAX held top name recognition in the Denver market.

Besides highlighting promotional events, RE/MAX Balloons fly at all the major – and many minor – hot air balloon meets across North America. RE/MAX Balloon pilots introduce school classes to ballooning, and couples ask to be married in the balloon.

The average RE/MAX Balloon makes 65 appearances a year, each event averaging more than an hour, for a fleet total of about 6,400 hours of advertising – equal to nearly nine months of 24-hour flying.

The network’s major graphic symbol, the RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon image appears on “for sale” signs, bus benches, billboards, in print advertising and television commercials. Today, RE/MAX is one of the most recognized real estate brands and logos across the globe. And RE/MAX Lakeside in Lake Arrowhead is the Official RE/MAX of Lake Arrowhead and the surrounding communities.

Crucial Information every California Real Estate Agent Should Know

warning 300x300 Crucial Information every California Real Estate Agent Should KnowWarning to all California Real Estate Agents from C.A.R! As a RE/MAX Lake Arrowhead agent who specializes in Lake Arrowhead Real Estate and Foreclosure properties I came across crucial  information via The C.A.R Newsline.  C.A.R Members have reported that numerous investor buyers are using an “As-Is Contract for Sale and Purchase” form which untruthfully claims to be approved by C.A.R. Even though C.A.R. has not reviewed or approved the form.

CAR1 Crucial Information every California Real Estate Agent Should Know

The “As-Is Contract for Sale and Purchase” form, referenced at the bottom as “FAR/BAR ASIS,” has been modeled after a purchase agreement approved by the Florida Association of REALTORS®.

This standard form agreement has been used by Greenhills Financial Investment, LLC, among others.  C.A.R.’s Legal Dept. is vigilantly pursuing this matter, which includes issuing cease-and-desist letters against anyone using the form. C.A.R. has no business affiliation whatsoever with Greenhills Financial Investment or the form’s publisher.  C.A.R. currently has no standard form with the words, “As Is,” in the title.

REALTORS® who come across the form are encouraged to report the matter to C.A.R. by contacting our Strategic Defense Counsel, Nicole Briggs mailto: nicoleb@car.org

What Happened to The Blue Jay Ice Castle?

What Happened to The Blue Jay Ice Castle?

icecastle What Happened to The Blue Jay Ice Castle?

The Blue Jay Ice Castle among other things has helped shaped the identity of our mountain community. The Blue Jay Outdoor Ice Skating Rink began as a seasonal rink in the 1930’s. By the 1940’s it became a year-round phenomenon cherished by visitors and locals alike. The Rite-Aid is now located where this rink originally stood. The Ice Castle eventually found a home at the entrance of Blue Jay Village. The grand opening took place June of 1983. Complete with Grand Opening ceremonies including a gala entitled “Symphony on Skates” which rose over $310,000 for the Mountain Community Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. The rink was a popular gathering place for over 50 years.

As a RE/MAX agent who specializes in Lake Arrowhead Real Estate clients still enquire about The Blue Jay Ice Castle. A lot of the time the answer is, “The ice Castle is gone, and it collapsed years ago.” However this answer is not entirely true. Yes the rink is now gone and in its place sits a commercial building. But for those who still yearn for that Blue Jay Ice Castle experience, just one mile from Lake Arrowhead Village sits the Ice Castle Training Center located at 401 Burnt Mill, Lake Arrowhead CA.

Ice Castle International Training Center1 300x144 What Happened to The Blue Jay Ice Castle?

The Ice Castle Training center features an ice surface measuring 85×185 feet. There are no hokey boards, giving the rink an open and spacious feel, a figure skaters dream. The Ice Castle Training Center schedule is almost entirely devoted to freestyle sessions, graded by ability level and by discipline (singles pairs, and dance). For casual skaters interested in an afternoon or evening on the ice, Recreational Skating sessions are offered and open to the public. Rental Skates are also available.
