Lake Arrowhead Climate

Lake Arrowhead has a unique climate for Southern California as it has four distinct seasons.
In the summer it is about 20 degrees cooler than the Valley floor with summer highs generally in the 80′s.
In the winter, night time temperatures regularly dip below freezing but are usually above freezing by 9 A.M. with an average winter high in the 50′s. Average rainfall is 40 inches a year which is 3 to 4 times the typical rainfall in the Southern California area. Average snowfall is 80 inches a year starting in late November and ending in March.
Camping and Hiking in the Mountains

Lake Arrowhead offers a variety of options for those wishing to camp in the surrounding National Forest.
There are two campgrounds in the Lake Arrowhead Communities;
Dogwood Campground
Description:
This campground is located 20 miles Northeast of San Bernardino, CA in the San Bernardino National Forest. The campground was completely remodeled in 2004, complete with modern restrooms, showers, & several electric hook-ups for RV’s. Activities include Interpretive programs on Friday and Saturday nights, Hiking trails, 15 minutes away from Lake Gregory, with boating, fishing and a water slide park. Lake Arrowhead village, with it’s fine dinning and quaint shops is only 5 minutes away.
North Shore Campground
Description:
This campground is located 23 miles Northeast of San Bernardino in the San Bernardino National Forrest, 3 miles from Lake Arrowhead Village, and 20 minutes to Lake Gregory with fishing, boat rentals and a water slide park. Campground has modern restrooms and running water.
Located in the San Bernardino Mountains. Restrooms are provided. Group camping is not available
Group Camps
For groups of thirty to ninety people, group campgrounds provide another option. Picnic tables, fire rings, and bathrooms — and a certain distance from other campers — make the group campgrounds a popular option for church group and scout campouts. There are three group camps located within close proximity of the Lake Arrowhead Communties; Shady Cove, Tent Peg, and Fisherman’s Camp. Reservations are required.

Hiking
There are numerous hiking trails in the area with the Pacific Crest Trail passing within a few miles of the Lake Arrowhead Communities. Take a look at the hiking and camping trail map and choose one of our many trails and campgrounds available during the warms weather months.
The maintained campgrounds are based on a fee structure, and have ready access to hiking trails

Yellow Post sites offer a more primitive camping experience with considerable distance from other campsites and few amenities while being conveniently accessed from a paved road. Fire rings are provided but may be used only when the fire danger level permits – call the Ranger Station, 909-382-2782, for information. Yellow post sites are available on a first-come-first-served basis, free of charge.
For the adventurous, remote camping is allowed throughout the National Forest. Specific guidlines apply when camping outisde of developed sites so call the Ranger Station, (909) 382-2782, before you embark on your trip.
Lake Arrowhead Recreation

If you wish to experience Mother Nature, The Lake Arrowhead Communities are for you. There are countless ways to enjoy the fresh air, pristine forests, and natural wonders located in this one-of-a-kind location in Southern California.
There are many camps and campgrounds in the area with the Lake Arrowhead Communities being the base for recreation activity in the San Bernardino National Forest. There are numerous hiking trails in the area with the Pacific Crest Trail passing within a few miles of the Lake Arrowhead Communities. There are also three Picnic Areas with BBQs, restrooms, and spectacular views of the valley below.
Water sports are available throughout the summer and early fall. As Lake Arrowhead is a private lake owned by the homeowners of Arrowhead Woods, visitors who are not guests of property owners have very limited use of the lake*. Nearby Lake Gregory is a public, County Park with swimming, boating, fishing, and a giant water slide.
Stream fishing, off road vehicle areas, mountain biking, and equestrian trails are nearby and great snow skiing and cross country skiing are only 25 minutes away. Wildhaven Rehabilitation Center & Sanctuary, Strawberry Peak Fire Lookout, and Mountain Skies Astronomical Society add to the “things to see and do” list while visiting the area.
Within the communities there is also a private yacht club, private country club with an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts and swimming pool, and a four-screen movie theater.
The Rim of the World Parks and Recreation District sponsors youth and adult sports leagues as well as a variety of other programs. Organized youth sports available in the area include Little League Baseball, Pop Warner Football and AYSO. For seniors, there is a very active Senior Center in the Twin Peaks area.
*Visitors to the area can access Lake Arrowhead by boat on the Arrowhead Queen Boat Tour, by water ski through the McKenzie Water Ski School, or on foot by strolling the boardwalk at Lake Arrowhead Village.

Snow Valley Ski Resort, Bear Mountain and Snow Summit all offer an impressive and convenient choice for Snow lovers visiting the Arrowhead Area.
